Our goats derive their name from an island in the New Zealand archipelago where they have thrived in a feral state for over 250 years. They were likely brought to the area by Captain Cook. Their origins were thought to be British but their unique genetic patterns seem to be derived from a Spanish goat. Captain Cook more likely picked them up during his voyage to New Zealand. 

Other Animals

We are working to build a flock of Holland chickens, an early 20th century breed attempting to create a quality layer fit for the table! There are likely less than 1000 Hollands living. 

We are also planning to bring Lincoln sheep to the farm. These are another threatened breed, among the largest of sheep. Their fast-growing lustrous wool is coveted by home spinners.
